Rory McIlroy has the golfing world at his feet - but he had to "beg and grovel" to get girlfriend Holly Sweeney to take him back. 18-years old Holly Sweeney is the childhood and long-time girlfriend and the two have had an on-and-off relationship, but they’re back on again. McIlroy and Sweeney are childhood sweethearts, however earlier this year the two announced that they were taking a break with their relationship.

Rory McIlroy said, "At the start of the year I wanted to focus on my game and just take a break. But I realised pretty quickly I had made a mistake - and I had to do a lot of begging and grovelling to get her back."

Holly Sweeney said, “My fabulous boyfriend has played flawlessly all week! Drink up northern ireland he’s done us proud! Here’s to the sick days tomorrow WOOOOO.” She was just 15 when she was with her friends at the Hollywood Golf Club on that warm day in August 2005 where the famous young golfer from her school was practicing, who she knew by name, but never actually met.

According to The SUN, Holly Sweeney waited for him in the clubhouse and his face lit up as she hugged him, and helped him come to terms with his heartbreak.
