Child Gets Run Over By Two Vans Mortally Wounded And Ignored (GRAPHIC)(VIDEO)

Sunday, October 16, 2011 0 comments
UPDATE: Chinese Toddler DIES A Week After Being Hit By Cars And Being Ignored By Passerbys

A two-year-old toddler was run over by two vans and mortally wounded, after which 18 people passed her indifferently in south China's Guangdong Province.

Thanks to the 19th passer-by, a woman garbage collector who came to her aid about seven minutes after the first hit, the girl didn't die immediately in last Thursday's incident. But doctors said the girl died yesterday from severe brain injuries she had suffered in the accident.

Police have detained both drivers.

After the surveillance video of the incident was put online yesterday, many netizens condemned the 18 passers-by who could have helped the girl avoid the second accident. The case was the latest to bring home the question of whether people today are too cold-blooded to help, or whether it's smart to stay away from an accident to avoid the chance of being accused of responsibility by the victim.

The girl, identified by her parents as Yueyue, was knocked down by a van about 5:30pm last Thursday, when walking alone in a hardware wholesaling market in the city of Foshan. The car driver stopped for a while after the front wheel rolled over the girl. But he sped away soon and the rear wheel crushed her again.

A witness walked around the girl lying on the narrow street without stopping, the surveillance camera showed. Then a biker and a pedestrian passed her but ignored the girl struggling in a pool of blood.

A second van driver, who didn't see the girl, crushed her again and fled the scene. After the second hit, Yueyue became motionless.

Over the ensuing five minutes, 15 people passed her and each of them just took a look. None stopped to lend a hand.

Then finally, about seven minutes after the girl was hit by the first van, the trash collector came to her aid. She rushed to help her sit up but Yueyue was paralyzed. So the woman moved her from the middle of the street to the side. She yelled for help and Yueyue's mother came and held her daughter in her arms.

Yueyue was rushed to the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command, where she remained in the intensive care unit until she died yesterday afternoon[see update after video below].

"She couldn't breathe on her own," said Wen Qiang, deputy director of the ICU department. The incident is the latest example of passers-by acting indifferently to
victims injured in crimes. In this case, some blamed the parents for letting the girl walk on the street alone. More criticized the phenomenon of people passing by without helping, caused at least in part by previous extortion attempts from the injured and their families who have sometimes tried to blame the person helping.

WARNING: GRAPHIC VIDEO SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE! VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.

The condition of the two-year-old girl, Yue Yue, who was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident, is showing signs of stability, Guangdong Daily reported Tuesday.

A video of the incident, captured by a surveillance camera, shows the girl being hit by a white van before being hit by another van a few minutes later on a narrow market street in the city of Foshan in Guangdong province on the afternoon of October 13.

Toddler: showing signs of stability

After two and a half days of treatment, good news came Monday morning that Yue Yue has regained the ability to take weak breaths with the help of respirator. The rest of her condition, including blood pressure and heart beat, shows signs of stability. However, the child's life is still in danger and she hasn't recovered the ability to breathe upsupported, reported Guangzhou Daily.

Rescuer gets big rewards

Civilization office of Foshan's Nanhai district on Monday presented 10,000 yuan ($1,570) to Chen Xianmei, a rubbish collector who offered aid to Yue Yue after the incident happened, as a reward for her kind deed, China Daily reported.

Meanwhile, a company in Foshan said that they will donate 50,000 yuan to Yue Yue’s family and the rescuer respectively.

“Besides the reward, we would like to offer Chen a job with stable income so as to encourage this kind of activity,” said an anonymous assistant manager at the company.

Hit-and-run drivers: sorry for the victim's family

As for the two drivers who hit Yue Yue, one was caught by police and the other turned himself in on Monday.

Both drivers said they didn't see the child before the accident happened, according to the police. The first driver who knocked down Yue Yue expressed regret, deep sadness and apologies to the child’s family.

Apathetic passers-by interviewed

Minutes after the accident happened, a man driving an electric tricycle passed by the injured girl. He looked back for a while before leaving the scene.

The man, surnamed Zhang, later told Guangzhou Daily that he didn't see the child lying on street or any blood stains. "I couldn't see clearly because it was dark then."

About a minute after the man passed by, another young woman holding hand of a little girl passed by Yue Yue. "The girl was bleeding in mouth and ear and crying a little. I was so scared and my girl cried because of fear, therefore, we left," said the woman surnamed Lin.

Another man wearing green cloths looked at Yue Yue from 3 meters away. He was a nearby shop owner. He denied having seen the little girl. "If I saw her, I would definitely have offered help," he said.

However netizens and neighbors do not believe his story. Neighbors talked about him and a netizen even googled his shop online out and criticized him of "lack of conscience". The shop owner said it has made him disturbed. [via]

NASA’s decommissioned Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite fell back to Earth between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 23 and 1:09 a.m. EDT Sept. 24. The Joint Space Operations Center at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California said the satellite penetrated the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean. The precise re-entry time and location are not yet known with certainty.

Update #14Sat, 24 Sep 2011 07:16:50 GMT

NASA’s decommissioned Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite fell back to Earth between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 23 and 1:09 a.m. EDT Sept. 24. The satellite was passing eastward over Canada and Africa as well as vast portions of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans during that period. The precise re-entry time and location are not yet known with certainty.

Update #13Sat, 24 Sep 2011 04:55:17 GMT

As of 10:30 p.m. EDT on Sept. 23, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 85 miles by 90 miles (135 km by 140 km). Re-entry was expected between 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and 12:45 a.m., Sept. 24, Eastern Daylight Time (3:45 a.m. to 4:45 a.m. GMT). During that time period, the satellite was passing over Canada and Africa, as well as vast areas of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans. The risk to public safety was very remote. NASA is working to confirm the re-entry location and time and will provide an update shortly.

Update #12Sat, 24 Sep 2011 02:50:07 GMT

As of 10:30 p.m. EDT on Sept. 23, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 85 miles by 90 miles (135 km by 140 km). Re-entry is expected between 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and 12:45 a.m., Sept. 24, Eastern Daylight Time (3:45 a.m. to 4:45 a.m. GMT). During that time period, the satellite will be passing over Canada and Africa, as well as vast areas of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans. The risk to public safety is very remote.

Update #11Fri, 23 Sep 2011 23:30:46 GMT

As of 7 p.m. EDT on Sept. 23, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 90 miles by 95 miles (145 km by 150 km). Re-entry is expected between 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and 3 a.m., Sept. 24, Eastern Daylight Time (3 a.m. to 7 a.m. GMT). During that time period, the satellite will be passing over Canada, Africa and Australia, as well as vast areas of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans. The risk to public safety is very remote.

Update #10Fri, 23 Sep 2011 14:45:08 GMT

As of 10:30 a.m. EDT on Sept. 23, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 100 miles by 105 miles (160 km by 170 km). Re-entry is expected late Friday, Sept. 23, or early Saturday, Sept. 24, Eastern Daylight Time. Solar activity is no longer the major factor in the satellite’s rate of descent. The satellite’s orientation or configuration apparently has changed, and that is now slowing its descent. There is a low probability any debris that survives re-entry will land in the United States, but the possibility cannot be discounted because of this changing rate of descent. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 12 to 18 hours.

UPDATE #9 Thursday, September 22, 2011 10:01 PM EDT
As of 9:30 p.m. EDT Sept. 22, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 110 mi by 115 mi (175 km by 185 km). Re-entry is possible sometime during the afternoon or early evening of Sept. 23, Eastern Daylight Time. The satellite will not be passing over North America during that time period. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any more certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 24 hours.

UPDATE #8 Thursday, September 22, 2011 07:44 AM EDT
You can receive UARS Mission Updates via RSS
As of 7 a.m. EDT Sept. 22, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 115 mi by 120 mi (185 km by 195 km). Re-entry is expected sometime during the afternoon of Sept. 23, Eastern Daylight Time. The satellite will not be passing over North America during that time period. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any more certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 24 to 36 hours.
Veteran French astrophotographer Thierry Legault has already seen it, using a 14-inch telescope. The ghostly video clip above shows the UARS satellite tumbling at an altitude of 155 miles (250 kilometers) on Sept. 15.

Today's forecast has the satellite making a fiery final fall on Friday, plus or minus one day. An estimated two dozen pieces of debris, including a roughly 300-pound (150-kilogram) chunk, could rain down anywhere in latitude between northern Canada and the tip of South America. NASA can't be more precise than that right now because there's no way to control the satellite's descent.

That makes the situation sound a bit scarier than it really is: Because our planet has so many empty expanses of land and sea, NASA's orbital debris experts say there's just a 1-in-3,200 chance that any of the debris will hit anybody. That translates to a 1-in-21 trillion chance that any one particular person (you, for instance) would be struck. As it gets closer to re-entry time, NASA expects that the predictions for the debris zone will get more precise.

For updates, check NASA's UARS status page and back to this post / blog. Today's story focuses on how prepared the Federal Emergency Management Agency is in case the satellite re-enters over U.S. territory. Feel free to discuss the satellite's imminent fall in the comment section below — but whatever you do, DON'T PANIC!

Just A Truck Batmanning Off A Bridge In China (PHOTO)

Saturday, September 10, 2011 0 comments
Some Accident... "Dude I bet you I can Batman this truck." There's gotta be a physics lesson in there somewhere.

A Chinese truck driver cheated certain death after his vehicle somehow span out on the major road, clipped the concrete wall, and turned over the edge. Thanks to a single punctured tyre and some torn sheet metal near the diesel tank, the truck somehow managed to cling on to the concrete barrier, albeit upside down. Rescuers moved in to pluck the driver to safety, never being entirely sure when the metal or tyres would finally give up their life saving properties and let the truck plunge 200 feet into the gorge below in rural China.

The 1996 Chinese Long March Rocket Launch Failure That Destroyed An Entire Village (VIDEO)

Thursday, September 8, 2011 0 comments
Long March rocket CZ-3B explodes over Sichuan, China, February 15, 1996. As many as 500 (estimated) innocent people died due to the failed rocket launch. The Chinese government blamed the rocket's failure on an unexpected gust of wind.

I actually wrote a short case study for a pre-engineering class about the failure of this rocket. Basically the piece of electronics that told the rocket the orientation it was in had failed and the rocket tried to correct itself, right into a village. Official casualties are said to be 6 people at the launch pad. Estimates of those lost in the village range from 100 to 5000.

This was not the first Long March III rocket to fail, it was the first to fail quite so terribly. It was also the last. This event was studied by various committees in China and America about the technology on the satellite the rocket was supposed to put into orbit. It was developed by an American company and sold specifically for launch. Reports say that the Chinese were attempting to recover it from the wreckage. Some accused the Clinton administration of letting secret high technology slip into Chinese hands.
Really interesting stuff. via blazingsaddle more on the TIL via Reddit

GIANT 21 Foot Saltwater Crocodile Captured Alive In Philippines (VIDEO)

Tuesday, September 6, 2011 0 comments

September 4 2011 - BUTUAN City, Philippines:

Villagers and veteran hunters have captured a one-ton saltwater crocodile which they plan to make the star of a planned ecotourism park in a southern Philippine town. About 100 people had to pull the crocodile, which weighs about 2,370 pounds (1,075 kilograms), from the creek to a clearing where a crane lifted it into a truck.

The saltwater crocodile captured over the weekend in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, is to become the star of a planned ecotourism and conservation park near the Agusan Marsh, Bunawan Mayor Edwin Elorde said Tuesday.

“We will take advantage of this crocodile as a tourism attraction and we hope it will help us generate income and jobs,” Elorde told the Inquirer by phone.
The saltwater crocodile, now named Lolong—after Ernesto “Lolong” Conate, a Palawan hunter who was hired to help catch the crocodile but died of stroke while laying the groundwork for the plan days before—was captured after a 24-day hunt by a team of crocodile experts and villagers near Lake Mihaba, one of several bodies of water within the Agusan Marsh, the country’s largest marshland.

The hunt was launched after a local fisherman went missing near a creek early last month and a reported crocodile attack on a carabao. Villagers also claimed that a crocodile attacked and killed a 12-year-old girl, identified as Rowena Romano, in the same waters on March 7, 2009. Elorde expressed hopes that Lolong, which measures 21 feet (6.4 meter) and weighs 1,075 kilograms, would help boost tourism and income for the sleepy town of about 37,000 people.

Elorde said the people of Bunawan believe that Lolong is not the only large crocodile lurking in the 113,910-hectare Agusan Marsh, which straddles several municipalities in Agusan. “Maybe a thousand or more,” he said when asked for an estimate. But Elorde clarified that there was no more hunt for crocodiles in the municipality, contrary to some reports.

He also said that the hunt for Lolong was launched only to appease residents who became after hearing reports of a crocodile attacking animals and humans. This early, Elorde said that crocodile conservation groups and researchers have signified interest to support plans about Lolong, which is now housed in a huge metal cage, becoming the main attraction of the planned ecopark.

To heighten public awareness, Elorde said they were planning to enlist Lolong, who is believed to be 50 years old, in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest and oldest crocodile captured alive in recent years. “We are eyeing a Guinness Record for Lolong,” he said.

Mario Eludo, technical director for protected areas and wildlife in Caraga, said he saw no problem in the plan to place the crocodile in a new habitat for tourism purposes. “So far, the DENR [Department of Environment and Natural Resources] sees no problem with the planned ecotourism park. Whether or not the crocodile can adapt to the new habitat will be the subject of our study,” he said. Eludo also said placing the crocodile in a contained environment would provide researchers, environmentalists and scientists an opportunity to observe its nature and behavior.

Iraq Mosque August 28, 2011 Suicide Bombing Caught On Video

Sunday, September 4, 2011 0 comments

Mosque security video shows suicide bomber top left exploding, and the target circled red lower in screen fall over, although 29 others were killed. The second part of the clip shows amateur footage of the blood soaked area adjacent to the bomber.

This is Um AlQura Mosque in Baghdad. The likely target Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Gafur al-Samarraie survived, he is head of Sunni Endowment which stands against extremist factions in Iraq. Among the dead was Al-Fahdawi, a Sunni parliamentarian, also against extremism, who was previously targeted twice by AlQaeda in 2004 and 2005.

Suicide bombings did not occur in Iraq before the US invasion, and AlQaeda was unknown in Iraq before, and no weapons of mass destruction existed. Presumably Saddam Hussein would have fallen to the current Arab Uprisings had Iraq been left to its own course, and without foreign intervention would probably not have become a breeding ground for AlQaeda, and also would not have cost thousands of servicemen their lives and cost billions of tax dollars. via LiveLeak

Hannibal Gadhafi Family Nanny Brutalized Scarred Scalded (VIDEO)

Monday, August 29, 2011 0 comments
WARNING: Viewer Discretion Is Advised.

CNN visits the seaside homes of the Gadhafi family. A horribly scarred family nanny recounts being scalded by Gadhafi's daughter-in-law. A colleague corroborates the account and says he, too, was regularly tortured. Gadhafi family seaside villas are packed with high-end liquor and electronics.

Tripoli, Libya (CNN) -- Moammar Gadhafi told his people he lived modestly during his nearly 42-year rule over Libya, often sleeping in a Bedouin tent.

Even if that was true for the leader, it certainly wasn't for his sons.

At a seaside compound in western Tripoli, the Gadhafi boys enjoyed a decadent lifestyle that his people could only dream about, while perpetrating unspeakable horrors on the staff that served their every whim.

CNN visited the seaside homes Sunday.

The first house we entered was apparently the "party" beach condo with an oversized door that led into sleek, modern, black-and-white rooms. It had been ransacked by the rebels, but still it was spectacular, with panoramic ocean views and plenty of evidence of the hedonism for which Hannibal Gadhafi -- one of Moammar Gadhafi's sons -- is famous.

Discarded bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Scotch and Laurent Perrier pink champagne cases littered the floor. Much of the electronic equipment had been plundered, but instruction manuals remained for high end Harman/Kardon stereo components. Cabinets designed to hold two huge TV screens could still be seen.

The bedroom held a circular bed, while the in-suite bathroom was complete with sunken Jacuzzi tub lined with plastic white flowers. Outside, a hot tub, a bar and a barbecue area adjoined the private beach.

Another villa contained a white baby grand piano and more expensive stereo equipment. Next door was a huge swimming pool and diving complex, a gym, a steam room and a sauna faced in white marble.

We came upon rebels furtively dividing up a huge stash of alcohol. They seemed edgy and tense -- this is the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and alcohol was supposedly banned under the Gadhafi regime.

We filmed them studying the labels of Cristal champagne and fine St. Emilion Bordeaux, apparently not realizing each bottle is worth hundreds of dollars.

As we were about to leave, one of the staff told us there was a nanny who worked for Hannibal Gadhafi who might speak to us. He said she'd been burnt by Hannibal's wife, Aline.

I thought he meant perhaps a cigarette stubbed out on her arm. Nothing prepared me for the moment I walked into the room to see Shweyga Mullah.

At first I thought she was wearing a hat and something over her face. Then the awful realization dawned that her entire scalp and face were covered in red wounds and scabs, a mosaic of injuries that rendered her face into a grotesque patchwork.

Even though the burns were inflicted three months ago, she was clearly still in considerable pain. But she told us her story calmly.

She'd been the nanny to Hannibal's little son and daughter.

The 30-year-old came to Libya from her native Ethiopia a year ago. At first things seemed OK, but then six months into her employment she said she was burned by Aline.

Three months later the same thing happened again, this time much more seriously.

In soft tones, she explained how Aline lost her temper when her daughter wouldn't stop crying and Mullah refused to beat the child.

"She took me to a bathroom. She tied my hands behind my back, and tied my feet. She taped my mouth, and she started pouring the boiling water on my head like this," she said, imitating the vessel of scalding hot water being poured over her head.

She peeled back the garment draped carefully over her body. Her chest, torso and legs are all mottled with scars -- some old, some still red, raw and weeping. As she spoke, clear liquid oozed from one nasty open wound on her head.

After one attack, "There were maggots coming out of my head, because she had hidden me, and no one had seen me," Mullah said.

Eventually, a guard found her and took her to a hospital, where she received some treatment.

But when Aline Gadhafi found out about the kind actions of her co-worker, he was threatened with imprisonment, if he dared to help her again.

"When she did all this to me, for three days, she wouldn't let me sleep," Mullah said. "I stood outside in the cold, with no food. She would say to staff, 'If anyone gives her food, I'll do the same to you.' I had no water -- nothing."

Her colleague, a man from Bangladesh who didn't want to give his name, says he was also regularly beaten and slashed with knives. He corroborated Mullah's account and says the family's dogs were treated considerably better than the staff.

Mullah was forced to watch as the dogs ate and she was left to go hungry, he said.

It seems to sum up how the workers at the beachside complex were viewed by the Gadhafi family.

"I worked a whole year they didn't give me one penny," Mullah said. "Now I want to go to the hospital. I have no money. I have nothing."

She starts sobbing gently -- an utterly pitiful scene.

Black Foreigner On Korean Bus Verbally Abuses Elderly Couple All Over A Misunderstanding (VIDEO)

Korean for Beginners: Mastering Conversational KoreanWow. This is incredibly embarrassing, especially for someone who is a blasian westerner. WTF!? We gotta do better!

The video below has been circulating on the Korean Internet this week of a black gentleman yelling at and threatening an elderly Korean couple. It's definitely going to be a viral hit by the end of the week, as it's making its rounds around the world as we speak...

Anyway, his violent behavior was the result of him misunderstanding the elderly man’s comment to him. The elderly man reportedly said “니가 여기 앉아” (a sign of consideration) but not knowing Korean, the man in question interpreted “니가” as the N-word which led to his violent outburst.

Apparently our culprit learned “개새끼야” but couldn’t be bothered to learn simple pronouns. Definitely North American, but if his hair is any indication he’s definitely not a soldier.

부모님은 참 자랑스러워 하시겠다.

The foreigner in question is 24 years old, an American, and an English teacher. The victim was 61. This went down around 11:10pm Saturday on the bus from Moran Station to Bundang. One of the bus passengers called 112 (Five-Oh), and the bus driver stopped the bus in front of a nearby police station, where the foreigner was arrested.

Whoever this dude is, needs to man up and come forward and APOLOGIZE for this unacceptable tirade.

NSFW Flesh Eating Drug Called Krokodil Hits Russian Streets (VIDEOS)

WARNING: GRAPHIC! VIEWER DISCRETION IS HIGHLY ADVISED!
Krokodil turns flesh gang green and scaly. This drug is horrific! I hope this sh*t never hits the streets of the USA, because a dose only cost about 3 dollars U.S. and you will eventually loose your limbs like these poor folks.

Krokodil has hit the streets of Russia. It's very cheap and easy to make. It's called Krokodil or "Crocodile" and it destroys your body parts every time you inject it. Just see the gruesome videos below to see how it has eaten these people alive.

It is desomorphine, a synthetic opiate many times more powerful than heroin that is created from a complex chain of mixing and chemical reactions, which the addicted junkies perform from memory several times a day.

While heroin costs from $20 to $60 per dose, desomorphine can be "cooked" from codeine-based headache pills that cost $2 per pack, and other household ingredients available cheaply from the markets.

OK folks, here we go, you might want to have a vomit bucket nearby... anyway, don't do drugs - drugs are bad, Mkay!?

I think everyone should see these videos for obvious reasons.

Georgetown Hoyas And China's Bayi Rockets Start Fighting On Basketball Court (VIDEO)

Thursday, August 18, 2011 0 comments
Fossil Men's LI2946 NCAA Georgetown Hoyas Round Dial WatchWith Biden visiting China, the Georgetown Hoyas played the Bayi Rockets in what was meant as a goodwill mission. With lopsided fouls in favor of the Chinese team, a loose ball leads a Chinese player and American player to tussle with one another which lead to Chinese players to violently kick the Georgetown player.

Everybody was kung fu fighting...it was tied 64 all in a heated game which already had a couple of pushing matches. The Chinese were looking for a fight: "Earlier in the game, Rocket forward Xu Zhonghao had approached Thompson while he was yelling instruction to his players and then began berating him. Thompson stared at Xu in disbelief before officials halted play for several minutes in the third quarter. Moments later, Bayi player Wang Lei was called for technical foul for arguing a call, and play had to be stopped again."

So basically a professional sports team hosts a bunch of teenage college kids from another country then picks a fight with them? You're making an epic run this month so far China, keep it up!
